Can you remember when you were a child in school and you planted a bean in a cup filled with soil?  We were taught that if we watered the seed and placed it in the window to get sunlight it would grow.  And sure enough, in a few days we began to see the soil break open and the bean sprout appear.  Back then we were not told what made the bean grow, only that it would grow, but inside the bean was all the energy and intelligence necessary for it to develop into a living, growing bean plant.
